Italian Night At the Royal Oak

The 17th July saw us host the second of our world food nights and this destination was Italy. Traditional Italian dishes were cooked by our experienced chefs to give you an insight into true authentic Italian cuisine.

Italian food has long been thought of as just pizza and pasta but this is not true. To start with pizza is an american invention, granted by the Italian immigrants of the 1920's but Italian food offers a depth and complexity of flavours that can seldom be found in other cuisines.

Bruschetta
Garlic breads topped with mushroom and garlic pate and tomato basil and olive oil.

Pesce Fritto
Whitebait floured and deep fried, served with a wedge of lemon

Antipasto Misto
Italian meats drizzled with olive oil and served with bread. Very popular starter throughout Italy with differing meats being used depending on the region. Our dish originates from Tuscany.

Pasta al Pesto
Originating from the Genoa area this dish has become very popular in recent years. Pasta is cooked then covered in a basil, pine nut, parmesan cheese and garlic sauce.

Pasta al Pomodoro e Basilico
One of the most popular Italian pasta sauces and variations can be found all over Italy but is most popular in the southern parts where the ripest tomato's can be found. Pasta is covered in a rich tomato and basil sauce.

Pasta al Sugo
Tuscan variation on the classic Bolognese sauce. Meat sauce cooked with red wine, tomatoes and olive oil.

Branzino al Erbe
Whole sea bass roasted with herbs, served with potatoes, vegetables and salad. Very popular dish in the coastal regions of Italy with differing fish being used dependant upon the region.

Pollo Milanese
Variation on the traditional Vitello Milanese but using chicken instead of veal. Thin slices of chicken breast are coated in egg and breadcrumbs then shallow fried. Served with lemon wedge, potatoes, vegetables and salad.

Pork loin cooked with Parma ham and sage. Served with potatoes, vegetables and salad.
